Then daddy joined in the nap, they snored together!
Ok so I haven't posted in two weeks. Terrible I know how all of you just hang on a thread to get my weekly updates... HAHA!

Two weeks ago: I have no idea what all we did. So here is what I do remember: Ben checked into the hospital on Monday morning for his last chemo before transplant!Yay!! that went smoothly and he even got to have a good TV this time which was a nice change for him! He did have a little cold at the start of the week but we figure that it was the same thing Eliza had so it's viral and there really isn't anything they can do about it! I spent Monday at the hospital with Ben and Parker. The girls spent the day in Loveland with Grandma and Grandpa Waite.
Tuesday is a blurr of who knows what. preschool, time in the hospital, blah blah blah. Oh and a movie night with Bethany!
Wednesday was the same. Except for planning on going to dinner with my friend Angela who was also 'single mommy' that night but I was forced into canceling because Alayna started running that horrible high feaver that Eliza had last week.
Thursday please refer to Tuesday minus the movie night... blah blah blah. Ben also got to come home that day! Yay for coming home so soon! His toxicity levels came down quickly this time which was nice!
Friday was busy and a little crazy. I remember lots of running around and then going to Loveland to drop the girls off before going to Denver for Time Out for Women (a seminar which is awesome!!). It was lots of fun to have my mom and sisters (except Rachel who was missed!) there for the meeting! I really enjoyed it. Parker on the other hand did not love how loud the violin could play and spent a good portion of each song with my hands plugging his ears so he would stop screaming!
Saturday was busy, insane and AWESOME! Ben's manager at work pulled together a poker ride for us (a fundraiser done by Harley riders who go get cars from different locations and see who has the best hand at the end) There was also a raffle at the end and an auction for some sports paraphernalia. We only went to the last location and bbq because we didn't want to over do it with Ben. I cannot even begin to tell you how thankful we are to the wonderful people and businesses and customers who have offered so much support to Ben and our family. We walked away from that fundraiser with more money than they have ever made in a poker ride and all of the door prizes and two of the autographed footballs! I cried like a baby and pray and wish that one day we can pay it forward because there is no way to thank these wonderful people enough for what they have done for us! That evening I went to Abby's bridal shower and Ben and his dad baby sat my girls and all three of the McMillan kids at our house. Thanks to Bryan my house was still clean when I got back and the shower was a fun success!
Sunday, church. dinner. fun. tired. the end of week one.

This past Week:

What a madhouse! I forget how much fun and how exhausting it is to have family in town!
Monday Ben had a doctors appointment to do his intrathecal (spinal). After his blood work was done we found out that his platelet counts were too low to risk doing the treatment. So they ordered more blood work for Tuesday to see if they were coming up and if not then they would need to do a transfusion. During the appointment I got told (yet again, but I've been in denial) that the kids would not be able to stay with Ben during the time in Denver. This is something that I am sure many many people would tell me how I should feel and how it's really not that long etc but to be completely honest I am not ready to cope with that yet and I had a total melt down. Not exactly a proud moment for me but thankfully I managed to get myself outside and alone before totally loosing it! I know perfectly well that there are many people who go much longer without their spouse worrying just as much as I do about their well being so don't try to justify it to me or make me feel like I shouldn't hurt or be scared, it will just make me mad! Anyway our poor transplant coordinator called me in the middle of my melt down and then arranged for the transplant psychologist to get in touch with me. She was very kind and gave me a number I can call when I need to talk and helped me feel better about the way I was feeling about the whole situation at that moment! After all of that the coordinator (Callie) agreed to write up a tentative schedule for me so that it wouldn't be so much unknown territory! It made me feel about 100x better!
After my melt down and Ben got some fluids we spent the rest of the day hanging out at the Merritt's house letting the kids have some fun cousin time!

Tuesday was crazy, Alayna woke up screaming in pain the night before so I assumed that she had an ear infection (per the usual) so I took her into the doctors office while Ben took Eliza to school and had more blood drawn to check his platelet counts. No luck on the ear infection and no luck on Ben's platelet counts going up either. It was a long day of play for the kids. Eliza had school and then an afternoon with cousins. Every night the girls would come home a crash! I got a pedicure that morning with Hailey! My toes looked very cute and I really enjoyed a little bit of pampering and socializing without any kids!

Wednesday was when things got really exciting. Ben woke up feeling really horrible. I mean really really horrible. He had the chills and was officially running a fever so I called the oncologist office and they got him in to be seen at which point we went directly from their office next door to be admitted to the hospital. Ben was SICK! As soon as they got him admitted to the hospital they started running tests. Lots and lots of tests on everything trying to find if there was a specific source for the fever. After all the tests and everything we found out that there really was no reason for the fever other than a virus of some kind and it was going to have to do it's thing. But because he has no immune system and his counts were just not recovering they kept him at the hospital and started him on some antibiotics and gave him some blood! They started with the platelets and pumped those in a bit faster than normal and he got a really bad case of the chills where he started shivering so hard that the bed was even shaking! Even his nurse said it was bad! Thankfully I was not there for that whole part because it would have broken my heart to watch that not to mention what it would have done to my concern level! Once I got back with his things (pillow, blankets, etc) things had apparently calmed down but his fever was still really high and he felt really really horrible! I spent the rest of the day at the hospital with him and he spent it trying to sleep and stay warm while his fever fluctuated between 102-104 the whole day. That night our home teacher and his dad came over and gave him a blessing so that helped!

Thursday was Eliza's first field trip for school. It was a nature walk where they got to use their magnifiers to look at all kind of things. It was really fun to watch the kids run around and throw rocks in the river. Alayna had a great time tagging along and somehow managed to sit in the river in just the right way to look like she wet her pants. Poor kid. After the field trip I took the kids over to Grandma's house to play with cousins while I went and spent some time with Ben. It was nice to see him without having any little ones with me! I took him lunch but it didn't ever make it down him because that was the day of nausea and vomiting for him. He never did get anything down that day and the vicoden they gave him for his head (thank you nupogen shot) got to revisit him as it came back out the way it went in. Ben got two units of blood that morning and at least 3 different kinds of anti nausea meds in addition to the fluids and antibiotics! And his fever did not come back!

Friday Ben worked some kind of magic! He somehow managed to talk his oncologist into letting him go home so that he could go to Abby's wedding that evening. There were some extra precautions taken. Like he got another unit of blood and another unit of platelets (trying to get him up high enough for his treatment on Monday but they are not holding their breath). They also finished a final dose of antibiotics and sent him home with 4 prescriptions for other meds to get him through and hopefully keep that fever under wraps! I spent the morning getting ready for the wedding and letting the kids just play at our own house for a while. Parker was really whiny all morning and I couldn't figure out what his hang up was until I took his temperature and realized he was now running that evil fever! Timing is everything, I swear!! So I drugged Parker up and got the girls hair done for the wedding, I'm pretty sure there was enough product in their hair it would take a miracle to do anything but wash it after that! Then I ran the girls to the Ohm's house where they got to go for a walk and play dress up because Cathy got them dressed for the wedding for me! I shamefully do not have a picture of them all dolled up but I will get a few copies from the photographer and post them another time! When I went to pick up Ben I had Parker with me and I decided to feed him before we left while we were waiting for Ben's meds to finish. Parker ate until very full and then gaged and puked all over me. I mean not just a little bit and not just once we're talking full blown projectile vomit spewing out of the baby's mouth and nose all over my cloths. I was thanking my lucky stars that I had not already put on my wedding cloths!! I'm confident that baby lost every ounce he ate and all over his cloths and mine. Horrible! After a quick shower and change for Ben and myself we grabbed the girls and made it to the wedding on time! Yay! It was a short and sweet ceremony and everything went very well. The decorations were immaculate I have never seen anything decorated so awesome! The location was also awesome so that helped too! Abby was a beautiful bride and Zach is a lucky man. We only stayed for the ceremony and a small part of the reception before heading home because Ben was wiped out and so were the kids!

Saturday was fun. We spent the morning at home until I got Parker to sleep and took the girls to the store with me. I then dropped them off to play in the hot tub at the Merritt's house with the cousins which was fun of course! That afternoon we enjoyed the Slovenia slide show and time just chatting! The evening was spent quietly at home putting kids to bed on time for the first time in a week!
Sunday, Today is my birthday. Happy 26th birthday to me. It has been a good day. #1 my husband is home and not in a hospital today! #2 we got to witness the blessing of a very adorable nephew Gavin Hutchins! and #3 I have the best family ever! I am spoiled and love the wonderful people I am continually surrounded by! I have had a great day and I managed to get caught up on some blog posts so that is an extra perk! We will do family pictures this afternoon and hopefully those go as smoothly as the rest of the day has!

Happy Labor Day!

Happy Labor day everyone! I hope your holiday weekend was wonderful. Ours was not. Actually it really could have been a lot worse but it wasn't really anything special either. Unless you count the trip to urgent care on Monday. That actually sounds a lot more exciting than it really was but in our house of paranoia regarding germs it was an even bigger deal to have Miss Eliza wake up at 5 AM with a fever of 106.7. I mean a fever that high in general tends to freak a parent out but then when you add a cancer patient to the mix it gets even more complicated. So I called the on call doctor that morning who seemed a bit annoyed that I was calling him on his holiday weekend for a kid with a fever but I felt like it was that important so too darn bad for him! Thanks to large amounts of Tylenol and Advil we were able to get the fever down to 101-102 range and it stayed that way for about 3 days. Poor kid would get delirious every time I let the meds wear off and the fever would go back up! I cannot imagine the amount of pain that has to cause as well but she was a real trooper and stuck it out with everything with hardly a complaint even when they swabbed her for strep there wasn't even a whine! Turned out that the trip to urgent care only proved it was a virus and there was nothing we could do for anyone in the house at that point we had all been exposed so pray hard and wash and wash and wash those hands! So due to the illness we spent the day watching movies and eating popcorn making a mess in my house!

Tuesday was better... sad but better. It was suppose to be Eliza's first day of school on Tuesday she was so so excited to go and I was totally bummed to tell her that because she still had a fever she couldn't go to school. Instead she got to go hang out with Alayna and Parker at Grandma's house while I took Ben to the doctor for his follow up and blood work. Thankfully Ben was not showing any signs of infection or anything yet from the sick kids and his counts are doing well this week, all except his RBC which they don't expect to recover like the others do. It just takes more time and they don't ever quite let it recover all the way before doing more chemo. We decided that Monday will be the start of Ben's last chemo treatments before his transplant. We are excited and I am scared out of my mind about it and how I am suppose to manage and deal with all of this. I don't really know how Ben feels about transplant at this point, he is so laid back and takes the approach that "it's the best survival rate so it's the only choice lets just do it and get it done." He amazes me constantly I want his calm and collected nature inside of me all the time!

Wednesday was good! Eliza felt much better her fever was gone and she was SO excited to go to her very first day of pre-school! She packed her 'getting to know you' backpack with: a pink hairbrush (favorite color), her Jessie doll (favorite toy), a Soccer ball (favorite sport), a picture of her family, and a fruit snack (favorite snack). She also picked out her outfit and we did a few first day of school photos for future use (thank you pintrest!). School went perfectly she loved it and begged to go back again tomorrow! Alayna and I spent the preschool time baking cupcakes! Alayna is a great little helper and that was her choice of activity while Eliza was gone, I think I am really going to love this one on one time with my little Monkey since Parker usually sleeps during that time!

Thursday Eliza had school again which was another very successful day. In fact she was a bit disappointed that she would have to wait all the way until next week to go again. I love how much she loves learning it is so fun and she gets so excited to tell me what they did in school that day and that is fantastic! Alayna and I spent the morning at the store and just puttering around the house and playing games with Parker who didn't want to take a nap. Alayna is so funny with him! She can really get him going sometimes and he will just be giggling so hard that you think at any moment he will burst into tears of joy! Ben went to the dentist that morning and had his permanent crown put on and a temporary filling placed to fix the one that fell out. It was an uneventful day. By the end of the night the girls were making Ben and I crazy so we resorted to sending them outside for a good workout. I made them run laps around the yard and do jumping jacks and slide and race and play soccer. Don't tell them it was to wear them out, really they were convinced we were just playing with them!

Friday was a great family day! I wanted to take a chance to go do something as a family before any more craziness could come from this month! We will be bombarded with so much this month that I really wanted just some time without anyone but us! So we took the kids to Boulder and walked around the mall before stopping for lunch and then letting the kids play on a playground for a while! It was a great day the weather was great until it started raining and the most perfect part of all was that it was just us and there were no major melt downs from the toddlers! Ben had one last appointment with the oncologist that afternoon to check his counts and those came back fine. I didn't go because I managed to get that virus Eliza started... We tried but Parker and I were not spared completely. Thankfully I have an amazing husband who let me have a very long nap to heal up!

Saturday morning Ben went golfing with his dad and I hung out at home with the kids... until the Jehovah Witnesses knocked on the door... then we talked about doomsday and cancer, very odd conversation but one for the memory books! Then my alarm went off on my phone to remind me that we were suppose to go to the Emmaline Mott's baptism at 11 that morning... only problem being that it was 10:50 when the alarm went off and the kids were all in PJ's still. I don't think I have ever dressed and gotten all of us out the door so fast ever! We were only 5 min late and everyone was very understanding! It was a great experience with a very sweet spirit. That afternoon I worked on my bridal shower gift for Abby (it's really cute!) and the kids ran around like a bunch of crazy people!

Sunday has been good. Church was excellent I really loved the talks and lessons I felt like I got a lot out of them this week which was nice to feel like I was really paying attention not just floating through it all. Ben's not feeling great (stupid virus) so he only stayed for sacrament in a hope that some extra rest will spare him the full effects (thus far it has!). We had a great dinner at the Waite house and left the girls there for the night so we do not have to wake anyone up at 6 am to be sure to get Ben checked in on time tomorrow morning. It's been a good week I am beat tired but it's been a good week.
Here are pictures from the first day of school: Alayna wanted one of her too so I ended up doing some of each of them! so fun!

We were all piled up in Alayna's bed and had so much fun being silly with mommy's phone!  sorry for how pink everything is... but we are a very pink family!

Some weeks are Too Long.

The other night Ben and I were laying in bed talking and commenting on how long this past week has felt! It's only been a week with having Ben home from the hospital but it feels more like one really long and difficult month! We have been in and out of the doctors offices all week and let me tell you when I say that as fun as it is to see such happy nurses who care so much it gets old to be in there that much!

Monday Ben had his first appointment after his discharge. He had his intrathecal (the spinal) that morning and then spent the rest of the day resting. The girls spent the morning with Grandma for that part and I took Parker with me and Ben to the appointment. The afternoon was spent doing stuff around the house, you know the boring stuff like cleaning and dishes! Actually that is often not a boring experience in this house, it usually involves a lot of whiny kids and annoyed mommy who tells them to get it DONE!

Tuesday was exhausting. I don't remember why I just remember being really tired by the end of the day. The kids had been really needy and under my feet a lot that day so it makes it hard to accomplish a whole lot. I did make it to the consignment sale and found a few things for the girls and Parker including a kindergarten hooked on phonics set which I am excited to be using with the girls! I was thankful to have book club to escape to that evening after I got the girls in bed. It was a good book discussion and if you haven't ever read The Book Thief by Markus Zusak I highly recommend it! I thought it was a fantastic book even though it was WWII (which normally I don't love that!).

Wednesday was exciting. I'm not sure if that is good or bad anymore. I went to Loveland that day with the kids to work on some designing some handouts for Heather and Heidi's standards night while grandma took care of the kids. They read books until grandma was horse! The excitement of the day happened without me. Ben has not been feeling well and has been having some vertigo problems. While showering that afternoon he felt really odd and decided to sit down in the shower for a bit. After things calmed down for him he tried to get out of the shower. Everything was fine until he got to drying off his legs at which point he doesn't remember anything except waking up staring at the floor bent over the bath tub! Poor guy. Thankfully he did not hit his head he only bashed his shoulder on the tub and there was no other damage. He went back to bed for the day after that. That night I took the kids to Eliza's back to school night at he preschool! She is VERY VERY excited to be starting preschool this year it's going to be great! Tuesday can't come fast enough for her!

Thursday Ben woke up feeling pretty awful so we called the doctors office to see if we could get him in early thinking that he was going to need some blood to help him feel better. My husband is a vampire, every twilight girl's dream! He's pale, beautiful to look at, and feeds on blood! The doctors office said they were too busy to get him in early but that he could come do lab work early so they could get the blood if he needed it. It turned into a full blown appointment to my dismay because we had taken all three kids with us for the blood work not expecting to be there for so long! After we got blood work back we found out that he passed out from blood pressure issues and that his counts were fine so he didn't need blood but really he did need some fluids to help him feel better! So when they hooked him up I took the girls to grandma's house and went back to hang out with Ben while we waited for fluids to finish. The afternoon was spent playing princesses and having adventures with the girls.

Friday was back to the doctors office for more fluids and a neulasta shot. The girls got to go play over at Austin and Eden's house which they love! They have so much fun with those kids, they are all the same ages and Jessica (the mom) says that the girls come over and then they disappear until I come back for them. Ben's drip went fine I went to Target at first then went back to spend some more time with him but because I had Parker with me I was later ask to leave. I wont even go into the details of how annoyed and mad I was about how that went down but I will leave it with the statement that I wish they would have told me when I first walked in that the baby wasn't allowed not waited until I had been there 1.5 times thinking it wasn't a big deal. Grr some policies are annoying. Enough whining from me now. The BEST part of that day was right before we left the house to go to the doctors office. There was a package on the front step for us from Ben's work. I love packages they are so fun! Inside the package was a Kindle Fire and some amazon gift cards. I cannot even begin to tell you how exciting that is for us! It made Ben's 3 hours in the dr's office so much more fun for him so thank you General Air!

Saturday morning I woke up with a splitting head ache so as soon as I got the girls up and fed I turned on a movie for them and took Parker on a walk. I normally would have taken all of them but it's such an ordeal to take all three kids on a walk that when I need a walk for myself then I really have to leave them behind so I can go at my own pace! By the time my walk was done I felt much better and the day went smoothly after that! I picked up some sponge rollers to use on the girls and we had some fun playing with them as you can see!

Sunday, It's been a good day! Eliza gave a wonderful talk in primary and waited to start running a fever until we got home. Poor kid is at 103 so she is keeping her distance from daddy and we are praying that his neulasta shot works fast to help him defend himself! Now for a battery of pictures!

Found Parker sleeping like this early this week... might kill me but it's so darn cute!
Grandpa Waite makes an excellent horse!!
The result of Alayna and curlers... we'll wait to try that again until she has a little more hair!
