Tough Week

You know last week was wonderful and peacful and quiet. This week was anything but wonderful, peaceful, or quiet. The volume in the house from screaming and fighting seems to have grown exponentially... maybe it is just that I don't have another set of ears to help buffer the bickering between the grils first thing in the morning. I am very thankful though that it is usually just first thing in the morning (and right before bed) that they have a hard time getting along because if that kind of action happened all day every day I would go completely insane!
Monday was probably the only quiet day of the week. It was my first day officially on my own with the three kids and I can honestly say that overall it went very very well. I was pleased that I got dinner taken care of we went out for a little bit and everyone played nicely together all day. I am sure we had our normal instances of spilled milk or lunch that landed on the floor after a little one insisted on carrying their own plate to the table. But those are the minor things that eventually we get to look back on with fond memories, right??

Tuesday was a lot busier! I had a dentist apointment first thing in the morning. The wonderful family I had originally arranged to take the girls called me at 6AM to inform me that she couldn't take the girls that day and that she had also taken the liberty to make arrangments for them to go to someone elses house. I know that she had only the very best intentions but that is NOT the way I would have liked to of handled that situation so it was a tough way to start my morning. I was extremely thankful to the wonderful sister who did end up taking the girls that morning because not only did she also get a phone call at 6 AM that day but she also agreed to take them even though she was scheduled to be at the school playing piano for the choir. She ended up taking her 3 kids AND my 2 with her to do this while I was at the dentist. I was mortified and wished with all my heart that I could have swtiched it so that I was watching her kids instead but that is obviously not how that worked out. My dentist apointment went well I only have 1 cavity (which is a miracle after pregnancy for me!) and then a couple of damage spots from grinding my teeth which they will repair as well. When I finished there I called the doctors office for Miss Alayna who I think might have a UTI they wanted to see her at 11 so I then spent the next 30 min driving around trying to figure out exactly where my kid was so that I could take her into the doctors office. It was one of those few times when I felt very inconvinenced by someone who doesn't own a cell phone! Thankfully I got her just in time to get her into the office and found that she has a yeast infection, rash, and possibly a UTI... The results on the UTI came back to us on Friday only for them to inform me that the sample was contaminated and they wanted another one... ugh. By the end of the day the house looked like a bomb went off in it dinner was a bit of a disaster and I was barely running on  fumes. All of which was shocking to me considering that I had not been home for most of the day and when I was home I only had two of three children until 2:30 that afternoon so the house shouldn't have been so messy!

Wednesday I was lucky enough to benefit from an overly generous mother in law (thanks Diane!) and I took the girls to Loveland while Diane's cleaning lady came to my house to make it sparkle! She does an incredible and amazing job at getting things clean that I never get around to. I mean really I've never seen such a clean bathroom and that is even a room that I DO clean on a regular basis! But it's impossible for me to be here while she is here cleaning without jumping up and helping it just kills me so I opted to #1 keep the girls out from underfoot and #2 keep myself from feeling super weird while allowing someone else to clean my house. We enjoyed and quiet day in Loveland with my mom instead. It was really nice to have some adult time to talk again I have been going through a little bit of withdrawl after having Ben home so much last week that it was a hard adjustment to go back to 90% toddler conversation for most of the day! Mom and I just played with the girls and gave her some good snuggle time with Parker who I am sure also relished in the time to be held almost non-stop for a day! When we got home we found an odd problem... our microwave was broken. Weird.

Thursday was not a happy day in the Merritt house. But before I get into that Happy Birthday to Abby! so back to our day: Eliza woke up grumpy. By grumpy I mean to say that between the hour of 7:00 am when she woke up and 7:20 when I put her back in her bed indefinently she managed to have 4 total melt downs including some impressive screaming, throwing herself on the floor, throwing things, and hitting her sister. I think I should have just taken that as a sign for how the rest of my day was going to go. Ben had a breakfast meeting with one of the higher ups in the company he works for. He had hopes that it would be some kind of conversation as to why he did not get the manager position in the Ft. Collins store that he had applied for and really wanted. In the end it wasn't anything more than breakfast. I was again reminded that it makes me really bitter when things don't work out the way that I think they should. I don't know if it was just my hormones (that are still a bit out of control) or just my pure bitterness that resulted in a lot of tears for me. I was excited for Ben for a change and finding out that not only did he not get the job but there doesn't appear to be a lot of future prospects either was really really irritating for me. I found it very hard to be happy all day. I guess in part my anger comes from how many times Ben has been passed up in the company for positions that I felt he would be well suited for. Maybe it is just that I don't like not being able to control it. and maybe it is that I am too impatient to wait for whatever it is that Heavenly Father has planned for us. I really thought that in all the praying we have done and all the thought that we have been putting into this that we understood what the answer was and that this change was the right change for our family, so when it doesn't work out I feel like I must not have been listening very well or else I was letting my own desires overpower what the answers were really suppose to be. Maybe we are just taking the wrong approach with this whole situation, either way I am getting really tired of getting my hopes up for things only to have them slip from my grasp when it feels so close to a reality. The waiting game is going to kill me!

Friday had a miserable start. I got the girls up to go play at Grandma's house while there were some other little girls there to play with (some kids from mom's ward that she was watching and wanted us to come play with). This was of course after the drama of trying to find shoes and convincing the girls that they could not take their toys with them to grandma's house. As we were climbing in the car (and I was lecturing the girls to pick up the pace because we were going to be late.) Eliza promptly pointed out "Mom, where is the movie players!?" I smarted back some response only to look up and realize that sure enough she was right and they were gone. Some JERK stole the kids dvd players from the car. Inside of it was our Cars DVD... I was pissed. I ran through all the expected emotions that go with having your stuff stolen and then I cried for the whole drive to Loveland. I should be running low on tears by now with how much time I have spent crying in the last few weeks so seriously NO MORE CRAP! I'm officially emotionally shot and have no desire to deal with anymore of it.
On the drive to Loveland my waterbottle rolled across the van busted open and spill it's entire contents on the floor. Thankfully it was just water. BUT when Alayna got out of the car she sat right in it and got out of the car crying because now SHE was soaking wet, exhausted from 3 days of no nap, and miserable. Grandma needed to make a quick trip to Walmart so we re-loaded the girls and ran to the store. Grandma being Grandma ended up getting both girls a new outfit so Alayna would have something dry to put on. Alayna then fell asleep in Grandma's arms while walking around the store and went back to the house to nap for a few hours. Eliza played with her new friend Ramona. The two of them were adorable and sure seemed to have a really good time playing together. In fact they even got married a couple of times... haha!
We went home to make dinner and clean up the toys that managed to explode over the living room again. Then we had a nice dinner with Abby and Zac to celebrate Abby's birthday. It was a nice peaceful way to end a long day. Oh and while we were cooking dinner we fried another microwave. Apparently there must be something wrong with the outlet because 2 microwaves in 2 days in insane. I figure that when it rains it pours and currently it's pouring here. So if you are thirsty come on over we're drowning.

Saturday was better. Much Better. Ben was home all day, the girls played well together. We made it to a few stores and Ben got the lawn mowed and sprinklers going and running well. We splurged on dinner out with the kids and then went over to Sears where I was lucky enough to find some really classy little Sunday shoes for Parker to grow into and they were really really cheap! I also scored a cheap boy cribsheet since I only own one currently that isn't pink!

Sunday was good too. Other than being exhausted physically and emotionally at least nothing major went wrong that day! We had great meetings and got to talk to cousins on the computer for a little bit before having a great dinner! I am so thankful that last week is over! Hopefully this week I will figure out what we are going to do about budgeting and dealing with the hospital bills that are starting to roll in.
Now since this week was a bit of a downer I would like to add: Life is good and we are very very blessed. I am thankful for my family and how hard Ben works to support us. I am thankful that we work together to know how to make ends meet even when it is tighter than what we would like. And most importantly I am thankful for how patient Ben has been with me all week, Thanks Babe, I really really love you!

We Bid you Goodbye

Ok so we don't really bid anyone goodbye except for my little brother Eric who has officially left for his mission this week. So for the next two years Eric this will be my communication to you! I hope you like to read because I sure can get wordy at times... just ask Jaron! haha But in all seriousness congrats to you Eric for leaving to serve the Lord for the next two years of your life, we are so so proud of you and so excited for all the things you will learn and accomplish in the next two years!

So on to my week. The week was a dream, a very very good dream! I was lucky enough to have Ben home all week with me to help with taking care of the girls and everything else that goes with adjusting to a new baby. It ate up most of his vacation time that isn't already dedicated to going to scout camp this year but I didn't mind one bit seeing as how we don't actually go on vacations yet so it was just great to have a whole week of just us together!

Monday was spent just around the house resting. We took Parker into the doctor that day for a quick check up. Let the doctor double check his color, weight and circumcision all of which turned out to be doing great! The only thing that was still yellow was his nose and his weight was back on the climb instead of falling the way that it was so he was a whopping 7lbs 14oz by Monday almost back up to his birth weight. We spent the rest of the afternoon playing and resting.

The rest of the week kind of turned into a blurr of things that I can't really remember completely. I am not sure if the lack of memory was from lack of panicked activity, running from one thing to the next in a pathetic attempt to accomplish everything that needed doing, or if it is from an utter lack of sleep!

Ben was nice enough to take us all to the store for little outings countless times and was super patient with the girls even when they were being terrible little shoppers. We made a couple of trips out for Inta Juice which is now one of the girls favorite treats! That could end up really killing my budget because I sure love the stuff too so it is really hard for me to resist the urge to go spend the money on the drinks!

Thanks to Ben the house stayed incredibly clean for the most part. Between the two of us we have currently convinced the girls that they really DO have to clean up their own messes no matter how long it takes them. It is a terribly time consuming process for me since they both still seem to think that they have to be given specific assignments the entire time they clean but the important part is that they can now be told to clean up all the dolls and they will actually do it! YAY!

Sunday was a fantastic day! I made it through all of church without feeling like I was going to die from the heat (no baby belly helps in so many ways!) Everyone Oooed and Awwed over Parker and the girls were grateful to go back to church this week they were both very excited to tell us about what they learned and show us their pictures from class! Parker was also very well behaved and slept through most of the meetings. The afternoon was enjoyed quietly at home with the occasional sentiments from me of feeling a little sad that it was the last day that we would have Daddy all to ourselves it sure was fantastic to have a whole week of no schedule, no where we HAD to be and someone who would get up with the girls and let me sleep in after the long nights with a newborn! So as I go into this next week... wish me luck, I might need it!

Newest Addition!

Well we (finally) welcomed our newest Merritt to the family this week! YAY!!!

Monday I had a doctors appointment and was finally far enough along that my doc was willing to talk about an induction. So we scheduled that for Wednesday morning! The girls played at the Jones's house while I was at the doctors office and they both had a great time! After my appointment and some socializing with Erin I ran home grabbed a dress and barely made it to Loveland in time to attend the funeral in honor of Blair Muhlestein. He was an amazing artist and friend. I was lucky enough to have him as a primary teacher for years and in addition I was also lucky enough that he spent countless hours teaching me about sculpting. In fact I still have the bust I sculpted under his tender and incredibly patient care. The funeral was very very nicely done and an incredibly happy occasion, just the way he would have wanted it to be!

Tuesday was a good day. The girls and I just puttered around the house and got little things done here and there. I think we made good progress with things at the house before Ben came home and we ventured over to Loveland to drop the girls off for the night. When we got to Loveland I fed the girls and kissed them goodbye so that Ben and I could go enjoy a night out together. It was a great last hurrah for both of us before welcoming our new little man into the family. Ben and I went and saw Mirror Mirror (it's a snow white style movie) and both of us were very impressed. I actually think that will be a movie that I want to invest in when it comes out on DVD. After the movie we went home and tried to sleep before the excitement of the next day. It was kind of like trying to sleep on Christmas eve when you were a kid.

*Disclaimer: This is the delivery story... if you don't want to know skip this day!**
Wednesday was a great day.  It started nice and early with a 6am phone call to the hospital to make sure they were available for an induction that morning. Thankfully after some looking they did verify that I really was on the schedule and told me I could come in at 7! So at about 7:30 we started some antibiotics for me being a strep B carrier. That has to be in your system for at least 4 hours before they will actually do anything else for an induction. In fact they want to get 2 doses of antibiotic in your system before they start anything but they have to be given 4 hours apart. I did walk in the door having contractions 5-10 min apart but I also knew that those had been happening for days! So around 1 PM that afternoon they finally came and broke my water which was an interesting experience since I've always had an epidural before that in the past. It was kinda cool! Contractions picked up and got a lot stronger at that point so when the nurse came in a told me that the anesthesiologist was going to be on the floor I took advantage of getting the epidural then. That of course stopped my labor. We started the pitocine at that point and then had Parker at 5:20 that evening! We were lucky enough to have lots of people there to watch the process... There was the OB, his nurse, my nurse, the baby's nurse, another peds nurse who came with a student, and a new employee who wanted to watch as well.  It was a little crowded for how easy of a delivery it was! We wasted no time in the actual delivery. I was lucky enough to have no tearing (no stitches!!) and only pushed for 3 contractions... or about 5 min. The best part of the entire delivery was getting to catch! once the doc got the head Ben and I got to deliver/catch the rest of the way. Ben caught his head and I grabbed his arms it was really really cool and I want to do it again with the next baby!

At 5:20 PM April 11, 2012 Parker Benjamin Merritt entered the world at a whopping 8lbs 5oz and was 21.5 in long.

 traditional 1st photo!
 cute little toes
first bath... not a huge fan.
getting kicked by his cousin... they are going to be so fun to watch grow up together!!!
 daddy and his kids
see that grin! She was so excited to come see him and couldn't wait to get to hold him!
Alayna was exhausted, she couldn't figure out what all the excitement was about and didn't really care about holding the baby!
 Just because she's cute!

first Family Photo! we were even all smiling at once! even if it took daddy tickling the little one to get a smile out of her!
 Mommy and baby

The rest of the evening was spent with lots and lots of visitors! We were so lucky to have so many people come see our little man right after he arrived. I want to give an extra big shout out to Eric (my brother) who went out of his way to bring my very excited (and exhausted) little girls to meet their brother. The girls were excited to meet Parker! Alayna was mostly too tired to know what was going on and Eliza was thrilled as you can see in some of the pictures! Both girls now dote on his every whimper and bicker over who gets to give him his paci next time, hopefully this absolute adoration continues as he gets bigger too.

Thursday was great. Ben came back to the hospital after a good nights sleep at home in his own bed and then that afternoon Grandma Waite brought the girls to the hospital for another visit and to hand them off to daddy. Both girls were pretty much beat tired by the time they had spent that many hours playing at Grandma's house and not having naps like normal so when Ben took them home around 6ish Alayna passed out in the car before they could make the 10 min drive back to the house. Ben said that the evening consisted mostly of a quick dinner and an easy bed time where the girls went right to sleep! I enjoyed the night at the hospital and was exhausted enough at that point to sleep through the discomfort of the bed and all the interruptions from nurses who need to check on you.

Friday was the day to go home! YAY!!! I enjoy my hospital stays well enough but there is nothing like going home to sleep in your own bed and NOT have anyone checking on you every hour of the night! The discharge process took longer than we would have loved but it went just fine in the end. I got a massage (per the usual at this hospital!) and Parker got his circumcision and that went just dandy! The doc said he didn't even cry! Once we got home I enjoyed just hanging out at the house. Eliza and Alayna ran around and made sure to remind me that they are also still very very important people in the family! I think they missed me...awww...

Saturday we went back to the hospital for Mr. Parker who needed his Bili levels checked again for the jaundice he had... that took forever!! I was reminded how much I hate doing those things at the hospital but thankfully his results showed that he was coming down (duh, my milk came in!) so we made our way to Loveland to let the girls play with their cousins while Rachel was in town! The girls had a blast, got to get their toenails painted and played to their hearts content with each other! Ben and I hung out and talked with everyone for a while and then made our way home.

Sunday was suppose to be Stake Conference for us. With Parker not being even a week old yet we decided to opt out of church this week. Eric spoke in both my parents ward and in the singles ward this week as well before leaving for his mission in Santa Rosa, CA. That afternoon we had a big family dinner, almost a last hurrah before saying goodbye to Eric for the next two years. It was great to have my whole family together again but we were again reminded how big we all are now and how difficult it is to fit so many grown adults around the kitchen table! It was a good evening and we had way too many desserts but boy were they yummy!

Conference Weekend

One week off isn't too bad... right?
I could pretend to blame it on my incredible forgetfulness these days or the fact that I was so utterly consumed with the idea of having a baby that I let it slip my mind to post last week... but all of those would be a lie. I just didn't get around to it. Sorry to all you who hang on my every word and post! haha

Before I get on with this weeks post I have to tell you how awesome the weekend before was! Bethany and my in-laws all got together and threw me a baby shower on Saturday! It was mostly just people from the ward and family that could be there (those that couldn't be there were missed but please don't feel guilty! That's just silly!) Initially I was a little leery of having a baby shower for a baby #3 but everyone seemed to convince me that it was totally normal because it's the first boy. So we had a great time reading all the 'I wish for you...' for Parker that everyone wrote and I got many many wonderful gifts! This little man is sure loved! Plus it was great to see family and hang out and chat for a while. The girls even got to come because Daddy had to be at work and they were perfectly well behaved the whole time which really helped! So a huge thank you to everyone who put it all together I had a fantastic time!

Now on to this week! Monday was windy. I mean really really windy. I do not love the wind. It tends to make all of the females in this house extra moody and temperamental. Normally I would blow it off (haha wind joke!) but seriously that day was a bit more than I could tolerate. I tried taking the girls to the park for the ward park-date that had been planned and we lasted for a little while but not very many people showed up anyway (smarter than some of us!) and neither of the girls were really loving getting beaten by everything blowing by their bear legs!

Tuesday was mostly spent at home getting things settled in and put away for Parker to come (please hurry up!) I spent most of that day in a lot of pain. For some reason this baby really loves to pinch my nerves, literally. Which then sends me reeling in pain trying to not tumble to the ground curl into the fetal position and cry. This I am sure is a very humorous thing to watch happen because the girls get a bad case of the giggles every time mommy's face contorts and she starts doing the 'LET GO of that nerve' dance. At least someone is getting some entertainment out of it! That evening we made a trip the the store to go pick out kites with the girls who were begging for them since seeing everyone at the park the day before attempting to fly their kites in that crazy wind. Daddy was awesome and cooked dinner while we were out getting kites and then the girls went to bed and I went to book group! It was great to get out for a little bit that night. Ben spent the night listening to the Hunger Games books at home.

Wednesday I went to Loveland. I met up with Natalie and her son Jackson and we went on a good long walk. I had a 'bad mom' moment while out on the walk. It was early enough that the girls were both dressed in short skirts and t-shirts so both of them were freezing by the end of the walk. Poor kids! After our long walk we went to Grandma's house where the girls managed to disappear for hours at a time out in the back yard and the countless other places for them to play in at that house! They came home very dirty but very very happy! I helped mom with some spreadsheets and things and did some of the school pick-up/ drop off for mom. Then picked up a co-sleeper from Natalie which will hopefully give me a bit easier of a recovery time post baby!

Thursday was a fantastic day! Inspite of my lack of memory and brains it was a wonderful day. I went to a doctors appointment first thing that morning where I was lucky enough to get to see my little (or not so little) man wiggling around inside of me. I also learned I have lost a pound since my last appointment but that is apparently normal. As for the rest of the appointment, I am not really making the kind of progress that I would like to see to getting him out of there, but there isn't really a ton I can do about that! After my appointment I went back to the Merritt's house and picked up Diane and we went and got pedicures together. My feet have not ever felt so awesome! plus they are really pretty too! Bethany Mott was nice enough to take the girls even though we weren't suppose to have playgroup this week (spring break)... I hate it when I am so darn forgetful but I really appreciate amazing friends like her! The afternoon was spent baking and getting things ready to have the missionaries over for dinner. I made cream puffs that were super yummy! I ended up with twice as much filling as I needed so I will have to make sure and whip up another batch of puffs to fill so it doesn't go to waste... (is that a good enough excuse so I can eat them all myself!?) Dinner was excellent and the company was good as well!

Friday was a strange day. It kind of felt like a day of vacation and I am not really sure why. The girls and I had a very slow start to the morning but then went to a few stores, just to walk around and play with the toys. Then we had a picnic at the park that was way over crowded due to so many kids being in daycare for their spring break so we didn't stay too long. After the park we did naps and made a trip to Boulder to pick up a new pack-n-play that has a bassinet in it. After getting the stuff we played at the park again, Eliza had all kinds of cool adventures in 'Outer Space' that I was lucky enough to have told to me on the drive home... I adore my kids imaginations and even more when they are willing to tell me about their games because usually I can't get that kind of info out of them!

Saturday was an extra fun day for Eliza. She was lucky enough to have a friend who ask if she could go with them to Disney on Ice! I was a little jealous because I have not ever been but she was ecstatic to go and I listened to a week of asking if 'today' was the day to go to the ice skating show. She was so cute! Anyway she went with specific instructions from Mom and Dad of how to behave with our friends and came home all decked out with mickey mouse ears, a Jessie doll (Toy Story), lunch, a souvenir cup, and a picture with a frame! Lucky little kid was so spoiled by her friends! Ben, Alayna and I watched general conference that morning and went to Chic-Fil-A for lunch where Alayna played in the play place and then demolished her lunch after we went home. The van got cleaned and the girls carseats moved into the back row where they will now stay indefinitely! The afternoon session of conference was also wonderful. After that many hours in front of the screen all of us girls were ready to get out! So we took a long walk to the park over by Centenial pool where we met a very nice mom and her two kids where they played. I warned Ben before I left that if I needed him I would call before he left for the priesthood session of conference but I failed to call before he left and his efforts to call me failed because the phone wasn't close enough that I could hear it... Poor guy just about came on the hunt for his lost pregnant wife who went on a walk 2 hours before! my bad.

Sunday, today has been good but the house now looks like we've had a whole weekend in the house without leaving. There are toys and dishes and laundry everywhere! Thankfully the girls have been really good and I have gotten tons out of conference this weekend. What a wonderful blessing it is to have conference and such amazing leaders who can teach us so much!
